Senior Principal, Russell Meeks was Design Architect at Anshen + Allen for this award-winning pediatric healthcare facility.  He also contributed a critical role to the space programming and master design.  Scott Coates and Michelle Eaton also participated in the design of this project while at Anshen + Allen Architects.  Since the building opened in 1991, Meeks, Coates + Eaton Architects, Inc. have done the majority of remodeling and expansion projects in the hospital.

The building is a 125-bed, 320,000 square foot Children’s Hospital and outpatient clinic.  The concept was to bring elements of nature into the building as part of the healing environment, with emphasis on reducing scale, allowing for patients’ individuality, and providing family support.

The Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford has been the object of considerable national and international attention.  Completed in 1991, this innovative medical facility has been published in numerous magazines and professional journals and has been featured at healthcare conferences as an outstanding example of humanizing healthcare architecture.

The hospital provides a full range of specialized pediatric services to the Bay Area community.  Designed as a state-of-the-art facility, the hospital provides care for children in greatest need of critical and acute care and is the teaching hospital for the Department of Pediatrics of the Stanford University Medical School.  It is physically connected to the University Hospital and is fully integrated into the Stanford University Medical Center.  In addition to the diagnostic/ treatment and support/ administrative areas, a major component is an ambulatory care center serving 100,000 outpatient visits per year.
